Interval International travel demand exchange Index

With the differences in worldwide travel patterns, it is often difficult to know when the best travel opportunities exist in a particular destination. Interval's Travel Demand Index will help even the most seasoned traveller in making holiday plans, by showing relative monthly seasonal demand for each of the regions in their Resort Directory. Each locality or region in the directory has its own index.

Unlike the red, yellow, and green colour codes, which are resort-and week-specific, the Travel Demand Index represents a more comprehensive analysis of an area's peak season's relative to other holiday areas. And, because holiday patterns can vary from year to year the Travel Demand Index can serve as a useful guide when placing an exchange request or attempting to book any other travel reservation, by demonstrating historical strength of demand in a given area during specific months of the year.

How it was developed
The Travel Demand Index was compiled and developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers' Hospitality & Leisure Consulting group, an internationally recognised professional services firm. The development of the Travel Demand Index is made possible by the availability of historical monthly hotel and resort data on occupancy and average daily rates. This information serves as a good indicator of the demand for accommodation and inbound travel patterns in a given area. PricewaterhouseCoopers' Hospitality & Leisure Consulting applied seasonal adjustment procedures to the data to develop the numerical indexes reported in the II Directory.

How it works
The Travel Demand Index consists of seasonal indexes presented on each of the 26 region introduction pages in the Interval International Directory. Each area in the region is assigned a numerical index for every month of the year, with 100 representing the average travel demand for all regions. The higher the figure is above 100, the greater the demand for the area during that month as measured by both occupancy percentage and average room rate. Numbers below 100 indicate periods when the inbound travel demand is lower.

Ask AT Resorts

At AT Resorts we can tell you what the index is for any week you are looking to buy and can advise on what are the best weeks for your own needs.

The seasonal indexes reflect the regular cycles of demand over the course of a year. For example, higher seasonal indexes in traditional winter months are typically observed in regions that are beachfront warm weather locations or ski destinations.
