Where is Trenython and what is the resort like?

Trenython is a secluded English Manor House set in a peaceful 25-acre estate in the beautiful county of Cornwall. This unique Manor has been lovingly restored and remodeled to create one of the finest and most exclusive holiday destinations to be found anywhere in the British Isles.

Very much in evidence is Trenython's own fascinating history. It was built in 1872 for Cornishman, Colonel John Whitehead Peard, and designed by an Italian architect commissioned by the great Italian patriot Guiseppe Garibaldi. The Manor was Peard's reward for his outstanding efforts in leading the British volunteers in Garibaldi's Italian campaign. The Manor retains its grand Italian style with imposing staircases and colonnades, beautiful oak paneling and Italian marble.

Fabulous beaches. Despite the seclusion afforded by its tranquil wooded estate, fabulous beaches are only three miles away and many other leisure and historic attractions are to be found nearby. Trenython Manor has been recently renovated and refurbished with enormous care and sensitivity to ensure that its many charming historic features are retained and enhanced, while creating the ultimate in luxury and up to the minute amenities and facilities.

History. Colonel Peard lived at Trenython from the time of its construction in 1872 until his death in 1880. In 1891, Bishop Gott, the third bishop of Truro, bought the house from the Peard family and it remained a Bishop's Palace for 15 years. The Bishop introduced oak paneling from many churches throughout England including York Minster and Worcester Cathedral, some dating back to the 16th Century. He also finished it with many treasures including Lord Nelson's sea chest and General Wolf’s headboard. In 1924 the Great Western Railway Convalescent Homes brought Trenython Manor and later converted into a holiday centre, it was purchased by its current owners in 1997 and has taken on a new lease of life as a superb holiday destination.

The Trenython Estate forms part of the Cornish Riviera, a part of England renowned for its beautiful scenery and a mild climate encouraging many sub tropical plants to grow wild. Tranquil, peaceful walks through the steeply wooded valley reveal Mother Nature in all her glory, with butterflies, birds, trees and shrubs. Another lovely way to explore the countryside is on horse back through the winding country lanes.

Accommodation at Trenython is in architect designed, self contained detached lodges set in the beautiful landscaped grounds, each with its own garden and most with sea views. Each lodge has either one or two bedrooms, sleeping up to four or six people respectively and providing all modern facilities, including a fully fitted kitchen with fridge and oven and electrical heating.

Within the Manor House is a complete indoor leisure centre with a heated swimming pool, sauna Jacuzzi steam room and gymnasium. The snooker room has two full size tables. There is also a separate poolroom and a table tennis area.

The Restaurant. Another special feature of Trenython Manor is its beautiful restaurant with elaborately carved wood paneling and beautifully presented cuisine based on the finest fresh local produce. For a more informal meal, an inviting lounge bar is open all day and provides a comprehensive selection of bar lunches as well as more substantial dishes. Vegetarians are well catered for and children's meals are also available. Within a short drive of Trenython there are many sandy beaches, rocky coves and well known fishing villages.

Carlyon Bay boasts a very fine golf course. Although the location of Trenython favours the south coast of Cornwall, its situation also lends itself to exploring the wide expanse of Bodmin Moor with herds of moorland ponies, cattle and sheep. The rugged north coast of Cornwall, with its dramatic scenery and Atlantic rollers is within a pleasant drive and is easily accessible. Tintagel, famous for the legend of King Arthur and Boscastle, with its picturesque old harbour bordered on both sides by towering cliffs and the Old Cobweb Inn are all worth visiting. Cornwall is deservedly renowned for its many old inns, often with smugglers' tales to tell.

Nearby Attractions. For those seeking a break from the beautifully relaxing environment there is water skiing, windsurfing and boating to be had. Even shark fishing trips are easily booked. Plus of course those beaches.
